Hey guys,
So, I thought I’d continue this meme a little further. Â I got some great comments the last time. Â This resume idea is inspired by my friend who is staying with me while he finds a job here in Colorado. Ben’s an electrical engineer with 6 years experience and someone I trust with my life on a regular basis. Â Anyway, here is my circuit resume, “feedback” appreciated.

The OmniGraffle source. Â Oh, and here’s my “real” resume.

I would have chosen something other than a resistor for work experience. Perhaps an inductor would work better if we are trying to make real life to component translations. And maybe a capacitor bank for skills.
Either way it’s a damn neat idea and I think I may do it for my resume
I think it’s absolutely genius, if the resume is going to other engineers. I think HR people are likely to go blank and have no idea what to do with it though. Especially, keeping in mind that most resumes are now scanned into OCR databases where keywords are really important.
But once an interview is set up, this is a brilliant thing to hand the people who are actually the hiring selection people.
Thanks MissAnthropy. I agree the idea with this resume is not intended to be an end-all be-all for a description of one’s abilities. However, it might help you get noticed. If I had more time I’d make it more Ajaxy with mouseovers and whatnot. In print, i’d have the formal version of my resume listed on the back. When you pick out a product on the shelf, you don’t look at the ingredients or the instructions inside the box. You grab the first thing that visually appeals you, and then maybe you look deeper to see if it’s what you want or need. Since handing a resume to someone is basically selling yourself, I think it’s important to stand out from the pack.
Oh, i forgot to mention that the graffle file is actually XML, so it is searchable.
